Jacopo Penso started the study of historical fencing from 2006, after more than 10 years of Judo practice. In 2011 he co-founded "La Sala delle Armi" (SdA) a martial arts club in Turin dedicated the study of HEMA and, from 2013, he is involved in the organization of TaurHEMAchia, an HEMA event in Turin.

In 2016 he achieved as instructor the first level certificate from A.I.M.A. (Italian Association of Master at Arms) related to italian medieval longsword. In early 2016 he has been invited by M° Francesco Lodà to join the Italian team who presented HEMA during the Opening Ceremony of the Championnats du Mediterranée in Algeria. In 2016 he also joined the Board of Directors of A.I.M.A. and S.P.A.D.A. (Society for the Promotion of "Arte delle Armi").

His main studies cover Fiore dei Liberi, german medieval tradition, and also elements of the Bolognese School. Recently, with the help of M° Roberto Gotti, he dedicated a lot of efforts in the study and practice of Achille Marozzo's two handed sword in order to take the A.I.M.A. examination.

From 2013 he joined several HEMA competitions. He collected so far 6 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, mainly in longsword, but also sword and buckler and sidesword tournaments, including AIMA Roma, TaurHEMAchia, Dimicatores Austri Partes and Hema Villenueve.
