"We, Adolf etc., declare etc., that we have admitted Joseph Schirmer von Würzburg as our Jew and courtier, and his wife, his children and his servants, whom he feeds. All of them can live in any of our towns according to their liking and they are to be relieved of all duties and taxes during next ten years after the date of this charter. We and our successors pledge to defend them and their property and help them to maintain all the rights, which also other our courtiers and Jews have. Neither we, our successors, anyone from the chapter nor anyone else can force them into any service or duty, nor burden them with anything else. They can move away from us whenever according to their liking. If it should have happened someone would want to press charges against them, it may be done, nevertheless they can not be judged by anyone else except us or our deputed officer. This Jew also promised he would not teach fencing to anyone without our permission and if we commanded him to teach, he would do so and would get paid as it was agreed on. Given [in] Eltville [am Rhein] on monday after the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. A. D. 1385. [July 3rd, 1385]"
