Ben is a life-long martial artist, and martial artist by lifestyle, and thoroughly enjoys teaching. He has been studying the Ed Parker system of American Kenpo Karate since 1992 under his most esteemed instructors Clark Dalton and Mark Brown, and became an assistant instructor shortly thereafter, and has attended dozens of seminars on the Art (primarily those of Master of the Arts, Paul Mills). He is a veteran paratrooper and has served in two branches of the U.S. military, including the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division as an Air Assault Infantry close-quarters-combat specialist/team leader, having completed a tour in operation New Horizons in Haiti. He began his true study of the Chivalric Martial Arts in about 1998, and has attended numerous functions on that topic throughout the U.S. He was a member of the ARMA (Association for Renaissance Marital Arts) for nearly 10 years, during which time he achieved the rank of Senior Free Scholar in 2004 (one of the first), served as a senior instructor and developed and ran the ARMA unarmed combatives curricula due to his unarmed expertise, and has authored a plethora of articles on the martial arts. He has been instructing classes and giving seminars, lectures and demonstrations on the martial arts throughout the country for many years, and has coauthored two books; Lessons on the English Longsword, and Masters of Medieval and Renaissance Martial Arts; Paladin Press). He has consulted in the martial arts for both film and print in several faculties on numerous occasions, and has instructed both police and the military in two nations.

He is CPR certified and Combat Life-Saver trained.
