The MS Bibl. 2465 is a German fencing manual created by Joachim Meyer in 1561.[1] The original currently rests in the holdings of Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich, Germany. This manuscript, which may be Meyer's earliest work, was created for Georg Johann Ⅰ, Count Palatine of Veldenz.[2] It contains lessons on the use of the sword, dussack, rapier, dagger, and polearms, all of which would also be covered in the substantially larger book he would publish in 1570, Gründtliche Beschreibung der Kunst des Fechtens; unlike that book, this manuscript also treats armored fencing.
Until recently, this manuscript was believed to be lost,[3] but its location by Olivier Dupuis was announced in June 2021. The relationship between the teachings in this manuscript and Meyer's later works has yet to be determined.
