Italian (Novati)
Even if Rolando and Pulicano were to make me an invitation with lances, |
[34a-b] Si rolando e pulicano cum lanca me fesse invito |
I cut your head with my javelin |
[34a-c] Cum mia ghiavarina te tagio la testa |
English 06r
¶ If Roland and cruel Pulicanus had attacked me, a footman,
with spears made of ash, I would have delayed for the purpose of observation,
and the unruly right hand would hold either a javelin or a club,
and having caused the spears to rebound, I strike more furiously
at the lofty heads. As soon as possible, I would pull back [withdraw], overwhelming them with this action.
¶ The lance now cuts your ill-omened head with great wounds,
and it moves me out of the guard of the confident master.
