As professor of Medieval English Literature at Clemson University (Clemson, South Carolina), I study early English, Old Icelandic, and Latin literature. In addition, I have studied some of the texts and many of the contexts of the HEMA corpus for years before I learned of the existence of the international community devoted to reviving the martial arts described in these books. I soon found a local community and practice space at Sword Carolina (Fountain Inn, SC) and since have founded Clemson Longsword, a campus HEMA club and study group, which is growing in popularity every week. I look forward to contributing to the understanding and growth of HEMA using the skills I've developed in my professional career studying medieval and Renaissance texts.
