The archetype of this edition of Hans Talhoffer's fencing manual, the MS XIX.17-3, was produced some time between 1446 and 1459 for the Königsegg family, potentially even the very Luithold von Königsegg mentioned in the text.[citation needed] It exists in at least three additional manuscript copies created by 1561.
