Balázs Óvári is the founder and leader of Buccaneer Martial Arts HEMA/WMA group. He started to study WMA in 2004, reconstructing ancient roman gladiator fights, mostly focusing on the thraex gladiator, using a curved short sword (sica) and a medium shield.
Since 2010, he's started to move towards Bloßfechten, studying messer and dussack, and he also started to research 17-19th century naval sources (even logbooks).
He is a big fan of short swords in general, especially in naval context.
