A member of the Society of Creative Anachronism on the east cost of the United States, he has been fencing in such since 1994. Within the last few years, he has taken up studying more of the historical aspects of fencing mostly prior to 1600. He is currently studying Joachim Meyer's 1570 treatise to add longsword to his list of known weapons.
