Wechsel ("change") is a term used in the German tradition in a variety of meanings, fluctuating between a guard, a stepping maneuver and a strike.
Wechsel or wechseln may also be used synonymously with durchwechseln, a maneuver of changing the line of attack during a strike, actively avoiding blade contact.
Finally, in CGM 558, wechsel simply designates a change of stance.
