Wechsel
Wechsel ("change") is a term used in the German tradition in a variety of meanings, fluctuating between a guard, a stepping maneuver and a strike.
The wechsel considered as a guard is similar to a Nebenhut with the short edge facing forward. The same term may also refer to the strike with the short edge delivered from this position.
Wechsel or wechseln may also be used synonymously with durchwechseln, a maneuver of changing the line of attack during a strike, actively avoiding blade contact.
Finally, in CGM 558, wechsel simply designates a change of stance.
