Ringer kunst: funf und Achtzig Stücke ("The Art of Wrestling: Eighty-Five Devices") is a 16th century German wrestling manual written in 1537 by Fabian von Auerswald. It was illustrated in the workshop of noted artist Lucas Cranach and printed in Wittemberg by Hans Lufft in 1539. One of the earliest printed treatises on wrestling, the book includes lucid descriptions and detailed illustrations of all of its 85 devices.
Publication History
Ringer kunst was first printed 1539 in Wittenberg, Germany by Hans Lufft. In 1669, a second edition was printed by G. A. Schmidt and K. Waffmansdorff in Leipzig.
Some time after the first printing in 1539, a manuscript copy with extensive annotations was produced by an unknown scribe (the 2º Cod.MS.Philos.62).
