JEFFREY L. FORGENG is curator of Arms & Armor and Medieval Art at the Worcester Art Museum and Adjunct Professor of Humanities at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. His publications include The Illuminated Fightbook: Royal Armouries Manuscript I.33; The Art of Combat: A German Martial Arts Treatise of 1570 by Joachim Meyer; and The Book of Horsemanship by Duarte I of Portugal. He has curated the John Woodman Higgins collection of arms and armor since 1999, and his nationally touring exhibitions have included The Age of Armor, A Double-Edged Weapon: The Sword as Icon and Artifact, and “Now Thrive the Armourers”: Arms and Armor in Shakespeare. Forgeng completed his doctorate in Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto; he was for many years an editor for the Middle English Dictionary, and he has published extensively on topics including the Robin Hood legend, the history of games and sports, and the history of daily life.
