The Cod. Ser. Nov. 2978 was copied in the sixteenth century from the Codex Icon 394a, a German fencing manual created by Hans Talhoffer in 1467. Hils listed it as being held by the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek in Vienna, Austria in 1985, but it has since passed into a private collection.
