Publication History
Ringer kunst was first printed 1539 in Wittenberg by Hans Lufft; it included 86 prints from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder. In 1869, a second edition was produced by Karl Wassmannsdorff and printed in Leipzig by G. A. Schmidt.
Some time after the first printing in 1539, a manuscript copy with extensive annotations through the first half was produced by an unknown scribe (the 2º Col.MS.Philos.62).
Auerswald's plays and Cranach's illustrations formed the foundation of Paulus Hector Mair's treatment of wrestling in his fencing compendia of the 1540s-50s, though his actual text was largely replaced by longer sequences of techniques.
