The title of this article contains the character ü. Where it is unavailable or not desired, the name may be represented as Jobst von Wuerttemberg.

Jobst von Württemberg was a 15th or 16th century German fencing master. Nothing is currently known about the life of this master other than the fact that he authored a treatise which was reproduced by Gregor Erhart in 1533 (for the MS E.1939.65.354) and Lienhart Sollinger before 1556 (for the Cgm 3712). His writings suggest that he was an initiate of the tradition of the grand master Johannes Liechtenauer, but his name does not appear on the list of masters in that tradition recorded by Paulus Kal in ca. 1470. The treatise of "the Other Master Swordsmen" in Codex Döbringer and the Glasgow Fechtbuch mentions a master named Jobs/Josts von der Nissen in connection to Liechtenauer, but there's no evidence that they refer to the same man.

Württemberg authored what appears to be an extensive treatise on multiple weapons, but little research has been performed on his material as yet.

This is Jobst von Wirtenberg’s recital instructions with the long sword Item. It is to be known that there are five hews with the short edges. The first, the wrath-cut. The second, the fool. The third, the crooked-cut. The fourth, the war-cut. the fifth, the ox and plow. And thereafter the four oppositions Two below, two above and upon each and [sic] art and and [sic] opposition, you may execute the art in the recital. In the first, the wrath-cut and thereafter the work. And thereafter the overwhelming and whoever yet opposes you, the following breaks the art. If someone overwhelms you, so take his sword from him. Execute the wrath-cut as you are then nearing upon the man.. The fool is quite good opposing from the man, if you would like to execute art. The crooked-cut serves certainly or injuriously upon the winding. The war-cut serves injuriously upon the crooked-cut and when you engage his sword, you must wind. If the ox and plow venture out well, you may overwhelm any hew. It is to be known when you strike someone with the wrath-cut into the sides, you must really lighten upon his. If he strikes you second in the other side, oppose it between you and yourselves both, so approach and shove the sword on his neck and do not forget when you hew with the sword from the man that he does not pursue you and whatever you fence, fence with the pommel high in the air and free. This is the short recital with the short edge that you do not entirely sever him. As someone thrusts at you and you are standing with the left foot forward, so step with your right foot forward and push his thrust aside, so that your point is down, and hit him at his left side at the neck/throat. So if you are in the changing strike (strike and guarding movement in constant flow as in saber fencing) and you got your messer with the pommel above and the point in front of your belly, and someone hits at you, so stop and stand still, displace with your edge and hit him at the left side of his head. If someone hits you and you stand as before, so step forward, displace with the edge, step back againand hit at his head.		Item haut einer zu dir und stehst wie for so drit für und versetz mit der schneid und drit wider hindersic[h] und haw in zu dem kopff.
If you lay in the Mittelhau and you are standing with your right foot forward, and one thrusts at you from above, so push his thrust off with the back of the messer and jump to him at the right side and hit him at his head. If you stand with the left foot forward and you have the messer laying at the right leg, and both are hitting, so fall him with your right hand and press him his messer with your left hand over his right hand with the edge on his throat. If you stand with your left foot forward and you lay in the Mittelhau, if one hits at you, so step in a good step with the left foot forward and raise with the edge and displace, and grip with your left hand on his right arm and on the messer and stab and hit. If you strike both, so engage him and fall with your messer upon his arm and lay your messer over your leg against your manhood and step with your left foot behind the man and grip him back through the legs and lift him up and throw him. If you stand with your left foot forward so stroke up to both sides against the man, so step with your right foot forward and strike around the head with the Mittelhau, so stroke up against the man and displace with the edge and strike over the head again in the Mittelhau. If you stand with your left foot forward and two are hitting at you and the one behind you stands after the same strike above your head and displace the one before you and step with your right foot forward and hit the one behind, and displace the one behind and turn aside, that your left foot stands forward. You must always press the messer at his throat, he must get cut, if you want to throw him, the crossbar press heavy on the throat. So stand with your right foot forward and if one hits at you, you should have your messer laying on your right leg and go him up with the point and reverse the messer and step inside and grab his arm in-sidewise with your left hand and lock him his arm under your arm and control it, so you have locked him and captured. So an emergency stand with the messer: if one is pressed on a wall, so put the high right foot forward and lay your messer in the Mittelhau on the left side and as he hits at you and from behind, so step with the left foot outwards and with the right foot behind towards and strike from above down to the arm or to the hand. So if one thrusts at you in the emergency stand, so stand again as before and step again outwards as before and strike again from above down to his hand or to his arm and so you force him, that he drops his messer and so you defeated him. So if one comes with a heavy weapon and forces you in the emergency stand, so stand with your right foot backward and lay the messer on the other leg and as he strikes down from above, so grip your messer at the point and rise up with the armed hand and rip him his leading hand, so you got him.
